who we help
Support for the pressure, the workload, and everything you're trying to hold together while you're in school.

We understand
School isn't just classes. It's deadlines stacking up, exams you can't stop thinking about, and the quiet worry that everyone else has it more together than you do. Money, work shifts, family expectations, and being far from home all pile on at once, and sleep is usually the first thing to go. A lot of students reach out because the stress stopped feeling temporary, or because anxiety, low mood, or burnout started getting in the way of the work itself.
Students often come in for reasons that go beyond the classroom: academic stress, perfectionism that makes every assignment feel high stakes, procrastination and trouble focusing, and friendships or relationships that do not feel steady. Some are also trying to work out who they are and what they want while everyone around them seems to have a plan.
If you have wondered whether trouble focusing or finishing work is more than stress, psychological testing for learning disabilities, ADHD, and test accommodations is also available.
You set the agenda, and your therapist chooses methods to fit it. Our clinicians use approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy to build practical skills for stress, focus, and worry, and they make room for the questions about identity and direction that have no quick answers.
When something needs closer attention, we connect it to support for anxiety, depression, or self-esteem, and we have written about why perfectionism is often fear rather than high standards.

How we work
Several of our clinicians work with students, and we'll match you with someone who understands this stage and the demands on your time. You can meet in person at our Upper West Side office, across from Central Park, or online anywhere in New York or New Jersey.
Your first session is more formal than later ones, and your therapist will gently guide you with questions to get a better sense of your life history, experiences, and goals. We can also go over insurance and fees before you start.
questions and answers
Yes. You do not need a crisis or a diagnosis to start. Feeling stuck, anxious, or overwhelmed is reason enough.
We can look at your insurance benefits and explain our fees before your first appointment, so you know what to expect before you commit. Our page on insurance and fees explains how it works.
Yes. The first session is partly a fit check, and we do not require you to commit to a certain number of sessions. If it does not feel right, tell us and we will do our best to connect you with someone who does.
That is common, and a session does not need a plan. Our article on what to say when you do not know what to say in therapy gives a few ways in.
