Licensed Therapist

I offer a warm, nonjudgmental space where you can pause, take a breath, and make room for everything you’re experiencing. Whether you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, disconnected, or navigating a life transition, therapy is an opportunity to slow down and get curious about yourself. Wherever you are in your journey, I’ll meet you where you’re at, with compassion, openness, and without judgment. There’s no expectation to have everything figured out; we’ll start wherever you are and move at a pace that feels right for you.

My approach is warm, collaborative, and relational. I believe meaningful change happens when you feel safe enough to show up as your whole self, with all your questions, mixed emotions, and the parts of yourself you’re still figuring out. We’ll explore the roots of old patterns, make sense of how past experiences may be shaping your present, and build on the strengths you already carry. Along the way, there’s room for honesty, curiosity, and humor, because making space for the full range of human emotions can help us approach life’s challenges with greater compassion for ourselves and others.

I tailor our work to your specific needs, integrating evidence-based modalities, including psychodynamic, relational, cognitive behavioral (CBT), acceptance and commitment (ACT), and dialectical behavior (DBT) therapies. Together, we’ll work to deepen your self-understanding, build practical tools for navigating difficult emotions, and develop new ways of relating to yourself and others. My hope is that our work helps you feel more empowered and connected to what matters most, while offering a space where you feel genuinely seen and heard, can exhale and be yourself, and know you don’t have to navigate everything alone.

Therapists for Anxiety, Depression and Couples

Training and Education

I am a psychotherapist licensed in New York and New Jersey, specializing in working with teenagers and adults navigating anxiety, depression, relational challenges, complex family dynamics, trauma, and life transitions. I earned my master’s degree in social work from NYU Silver School of Social Work and my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Delaware, where I also minored in Disability Studies and Human Development and Family Sciences. My clinical experience includes training at an outpatient mental health clinic serving children, adults, and families, where I provided weekly individual psychotherapy and collateral support to address clients’ emotional, relational, and psychosocial needs. I also trained at a New York City public high school, collaborating with guidance counselors and school staff to provide mandated counseling for students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and support for at-risk students experiencing academic, behavioral, and emotional challenges.

My background also includes research experience with the Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up (ABC) Lab, where I studied early childhood attachment and caregiver-child relationships. This experience deepened my understanding of how early relational experiences shape emotional development and influence relationships later in life. Additionally, my experience in hospital care settings, college student support, and international student admissions has provided me with a broad understanding of individuals and families across different ages, cultural backgrounds, and life experiences, as well as the ways family dynamics and relationships influence emotional well-being. Together, these experiences inform my clinical approach, allowing me to consider each person’s unique history, relationships, and circumstances while approaching our work with curiosity, compassion, and an appreciation for the complexity of each individual’s experience.

What our clients say about us

“ I’ve been working with Jessica for nearly a year and am very grateful for our sessions, especially with the pandemic. She is a great listener and very down to earth. She remembers a lot of small details about my life and has connected many dots for me.”

- Verified Patient

“One of the most thoughtful and professional therapists that I've gone to. She listens carefully and patiently to what you have in mind without presuming anything about your problems and who you are; something that has really annoyed me in my previous experiences with therapists in general.”

- Verified Patient

“Dr. Behr is the absolute best. Brilliant and responsive, her knowledge base and ability to point out things you can't see through the things you say and the way you say them is phenomenal. My time with her has been invaluable, especially during the pandemic.”

- Verified Patient

“Dr. Jess has helped me so much with my anxiety and worry. She helps me see different perspectives on my problems which really helps. She also is always willing to call me and talk to me in between sessions if I need anything or add me to twice a week when I needed it. I really recommend her if your struggling with anything. She will help you.”

- Verified Patient

“I have been rebirthed by the work I'm currently doing with Dr. Behr. She is gentle, kind, always reassuring with the right words or suggestions. She has been a phone call away during times of my distress, a "cheerleader" for my personal and professional development, and reassuring when I doubt myself. She is quick to remind me "you are doing the work, I’m just helping you find what you already have within yourself". But, without her guidance my journey would be a lot more daunting. I walked into her office broken, sad and jaded, today I am healing, hopeful and most importantly happy!!”
