Mental Health Counselor - Limited Permit

You may be someone living with a mental health condition that is often stigmatized and misunderstood. When society reduces people to their symptoms or diagnoses, it can leave them feeling isolated, ashamed, or disconnected from who they are.

I believe that you are more than a diagnosis and deserve dignity, compassion, and care. I aim to create a therapeutic space where you feel seen and understood without judgement.

In this space, you will feel empowered to challenge the beliefs and shame that may have shaped how you see yourself. We can work toward developing a more compassionate and authentic understanding of who you are.

I see therapy as a collaborative space where we work not just toward symptom management, but toward reclaiming identity, hope, and meaning.

I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and a person-centered approach to meet you where you are and support you in moving toward where you want to be.

We may work together to better understand your thoughts and emotions, build practical coping skills, navigate distress, strengthen relationships, and establish healthy boundaries.

You don’t have to carry your pain alone. Therapy is a place to make sense of what you’ve experienced, recognize your strengths and create a life that feels meaningful to you.

“Restoring your sense of self and rebuilding a life worth living”

Training and Education

Therapists for Anxiety, Depression and Couples

Training and Education

I received my Bachelor of Science in Applied Psychology from New York University. I also received my Master of Arts in Counseling for Mental Health and Wellness from New York University.

I began my clinical work in a private practice setting, where we served individuals from low-income backgrounds and various racial identities. I have worked with children, adolescents, and adults to address a range of presenting concerns.

Throughout my time there, I have also worked with clients experiencing a variety of mental health concerns, including psychiatric disorders, homicidal ideation, substance use issues, and suicidal ideation.

My experiences working with these individuals have been invaluable in expanding my interests within the clinical field. I have developed a particular interest in working with individuals who may feel misunderstood, stigmatized, or disconnected from their sense of self.

My goal is to help clients restore their sense of self, recognize their strengths, and work toward building a life that feels meaningful and worth living.

What our clients say about us

“ I’ve been working with Jessica for nearly a year and am very grateful for our sessions, especially with the pandemic. She is a great listener and very down to earth. She remembers a lot of small details about my life and has connected many dots for me.”

- Verified Patient

“One of the most thoughtful and professional therapists that I've gone to. She listens carefully and patiently to what you have in mind without presuming anything about your problems and who you are; something that has really annoyed me in my previous experiences with therapists in general.”

- Verified Patient

“Dr. Behr is the absolute best. Brilliant and responsive, her knowledge base and ability to point out things you can't see through the things you say and the way you say them is phenomenal. My time with her has been invaluable, especially during the pandemic.”

- Verified Patient

“Dr. Jess has helped me so much with my anxiety and worry. She helps me see different perspectives on my problems which really helps. She also is always willing to call me and talk to me in between sessions if I need anything or add me to twice a week when I needed it. I really recommend her if your struggling with anything. She will help you.”

- Verified Patient

“I have been rebirthed by the work I'm currently doing with Dr. Behr. She is gentle, kind, always reassuring with the right words or suggestions. She has been a phone call away during times of my distress, a "cheerleader" for my personal and professional development, and reassuring when I doubt myself. She is quick to remind me "you are doing the work, I’m just helping you find what you already have within yourself". But, without her guidance my journey would be a lot more daunting. I walked into her office broken, sad and jaded, today I am healing, hopeful and most importantly happy!!”
