How can you learn to make space around loss and grief? It’s time we changed the language around grief and loss. We never “move on” when we are in the process of losing a loved one. We move through our loss.

What is Group Therapy?

Group counseling is a powerful tool that complements individual therapy. It allows you to explore personal challenges in a supportive, communal environment by connecting with others with similar experiences or treatment goals.

How does group therapy work?

In mental health group therapy, a trained therapist facilitates sessions where members are encouraged to be open and vulnerable. This setting helps foster a safe space to express yourself and receive peer feedback. The dynamic of therapeutic groups interaction promotes personal growth by allowing members to explore new ways of communication, receive honest feedback, and understand more about their social and familial interactions.

Benefits of group therapy at Behr Psychology

Group therapy can be a valuable addition to individual therapy. The dynamics of a group therapy session promote many types of growth through conversation, honest feedback, and the processing of previous social and familial relationships. The group leader – your therapist – will help you and the other group members feel comfortable being vulnerable and open.

Types of groups offered at Behr Psychology

We currently provide both virtual and in-person options to accommodate various preferences and needs:

  • Women’s C-PTSD Process Group (telehealth-virtual): A supportive space for women over 18 coping with a complex trauma impact, held entirely online for convenience and accessibility.
  • Men’s Process Group (telehealth/virtual): A safe environment for men to explore and process personal issues.

What should I expect when joining group session therapy?

We will conduct an initial interview to ensure whether the group is a good fit for your needs. Our group leader will meet with you, and if the group is suitable for you, you will be invited to join our group therapy session. Our groups are closed, requiring members to commit to attending all sessions, typically running 8-12 weeks, depending on the specific topic.

Am I a good candidate for group therapy?

You may be an ideal candidate for group therapy sessions if you want to receive support from others who have had similar experiences or goals and are comfortable addressing your feelings in a group setting. Group therapy at Behr Psychology can provide a safe setting to create new coping methods, receive insights from other people’s views, and build a support network.
